I am researching the installation of Fire Alarm cables. I am not sure that these cables are to be enclosed in EMT or other RMC type conduit.

I understand that some NPLFA Cables do not require enclosure because they can withstand fire for a prescribed perion. I am referring to regular THHN type cables used as class 2 cables.

Re: Fire Alarm Wiring Methods

There are two types of fire alarm circuits
Non Power Limited
Power Limited
NPL is basically a 120V system, and is wired with a chapter 3 method, conduit, cable or =
PL is a limited energy type system and is typically wired with NPLFA cable, of the correct type (riser, plenum or MP) for the location. Some jurisdictions require conduit for all fire alarm installations, and even two hour rated in high rise buildings.
See Art 760 in the NEC and the NFPA 72 Fire Alarm Handbook goes into great detail.
