Fire Alarm ?

this may seem obvious to some but;
NFPA 72 7.5.4 says-
"wall mounted appliances shall be mounted such that the entire lens is not less than 80 in. and not greater than 96 in. above finished floor."
Question is, does this mean the entire lens must be over 80 in. or that a portion of the lens can be lower but not the entire lens? thanks, justin

Re: Fire Alarm ?

the quote answers your question--the entire lens must not be lower than 80 inches--if the lens is six inches high---the center of the device cannot be mounted lower than 83 inches and higher than 93 inches to center..

Re: Fire Alarm ?

Thats interesting. I don't have it in front of me, but I beleive the 1998 ANSI A117.1 for accessibility states that the device must be 80-96 AFF measured to the bottom of the device, which would permit slightly higher mounting than the NFPA 72.

Re: Fire Alarm ?

this is why i am asking the ?. it doesn't seem to be too complicated but there always seems to be someone, usually an official or officials that reference other instruction. i am just trying to clear up the mud as much as possible.any more accurate references would be great. maybe the article could state "no portion of the lens" shall be below...or maybe I am just looking to hard!
