Fire alarm

I hope that someone will be able to help me with this question. I cannot seem to locate my NFPA book and one of the guy's I work with is roughing a building that will have about 30 dorm rooms for high school kids. He started to rough the fire alarm and has located the smoke detectors in the dorm room at the back of the room and I told him that I was pretty sure that the smoke detectors have to be within 6' of the entry door. I know that this is not a NEC code but am pretty sure that it is a NFPA code. The fire alrm system is a simplex monitored system complete with heats, smokes, duct smokes, fire dampers, flow switches, tamper switches,horn/strobes and pull stations. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Assuming the detector rating is adequite for the room size, and you are ceiling mounting, I believe that mainting (.7 x spacing) from the furthest corner, and not nearer than 12" from the nearest wall is what you are looking for.
