Our insurance company is requiring us to fire stop around cable trays where they penetrate walls. Most places look like it was never done in any manner and others look like it may have fallen away if ever there. We are closing gaps with drywall, fireproof rock wool and red caulk,. Tedious job, as many places are high up and blocked by pipes, ducts and anything else you could imagine.
I think a good practice when installing trays would be to install a bottom and top metal cover on trays, extending about 12 inches each side of the wall, then the drywallers could finish tightly around them. Rock wool could be stuffed in the ends to fill gaps. Of course, that is impossible now and we have to do the best we can.
Has anyone else dealt with this? .
