hey guys job Ive got is a 4 unit condo each unit has 4 stories. in between each floor the ahj wants fire blocking. the gc wants to achieve this by putting up one sheet of 5/8 rock then 1/2 furring strips then another sheet of 5/8 rock. has anyone else ever seen this type of aplication? also we had been building boxes for our can lights with 2x4s screwing plyboard to 2x4s and rocking around can. boss wants me to tell the owner she has to suply us with cans that are rated for fire blocking. Can anyone suggest a maker?

Re: fire protection

How does one penetrate such a barrier like the one pictured? Punch a hole and fire caulk it up? What if you were using NM? Would you need to put in a pop-in bushing and then fire caulk that? On second thought, if you were being required to use these barriers, NM would not likely be a permitted wiring method.
