In a fire pump has a listed transfer switch and controller, is it usually listed as service equipment? I'm wondering if it usually has short circuit protection and disconnects as part of the ATS or the controller.

I'm designing the wiring to a fire pump ATS, and I'm wondering if I need additional disconnects for the utility feed and for the generator feed.

Mabye if I repharse the question:

Can power run directly from the outdoor utility transformer, into the building, and directly to the fire pump ATS?

That's without any other disconnect or overcurrent protection other than what's in the fire pump ATS?

Steve

Power from the utility transformer would still be a service and a service disconnect would be needed unless you TS is "service rated" (in which case the service disconnect would be integral)

Fire pump controllers don't have overcurrent protection. If there is overcurrent protection it has to be sized to carry locked rotor current, for a 100 hp FP that could be 800 amps.

I've installed two Metrons, they have good tech support, here is the email for "ask a fire pump controller expert"

Email and let us know what the answer is.

Usually the Fire Pump Motor Control comes with the ATS built in and you will have to use a SDS in the electric room in order to provide short circuit protection to the feeder.
