We have a fire pump that is directly connected to the secondary of a 150kVA transformer. The HRC is over 4. Is there any safe way of taking measurements during a test of the fire pump other than installing a remote monitoring device for current and voltage measurements.

Not really, wondering how you get over HRC 4 from a 150kVA transformer, that dosent sound right.

the ocpd is for short circuit protection only, the fire pump protection must be able to keep the fire pump running indefinitely at LRC.

I understand that, done many studies on fire pump systems, still wondering how you got HRC 4 out of a little 150kVA transformer. TO answer your OP, either inrease the working distance with hot sticks or reduce your clearing time using an arc flash reduction switch.

thanks, I'll look into the arc flash reduction switch. They will probably go with a remote monitoring for current and voltage as the inspector need to take reading during the test of the fire pump system.

PS. I didn't do the AF hazard evaluation, I'm just going by what the tag says.
