695.6 (E) Pump wiring from the controllers to the pump motors shall be in Rigid Metal Conduit, Intermediate metal conduit, Liquid tight flexible metal conduit, or liquid tight flexible nonmetallic conduit Type LFNC-B, listed type MC cable with an impervious covering or type MI cable.

Rigid penetrates the concrete slab. Installation of 90 degree liquid tight connector would be ascetically pleasing. Installing conductors into the ninety degree connector is a project in itself. Mogul LB is an alternative but costly.

Would a weather proof trough sized in accordance with 314.28 (A)(2) be a violation of 695.6 (E)?

recently we had run a feeder for our fire pump (20 hp) from ct cabinet to fire pump.
AHJ(NYC) approved the job with using RHH type wire in rigid conduit and did not required 3r trough (nema 1 was ok). AHJ felt that insulation rating on the wire was sufficient.

This might be interesting from the 08 ROP

It appears that the CMP is concerned with the integrity of the wiring method; there were similar rejections in the 98 ROP.

13-105 Log #2344 NEC-P13 Final Action: Reject
(695.6(E))
____________________________________________________________
Submitter: Andre R. Cartal, Princeton Borough Building Dept.
Recommendation: Add ?flexible metal conduit?.
Substantiation: Flexible metal conduit is commonly installed as a raceway for
motor supply conductor and it should be permitted for a fire pump motor. The
only flexible raceways presently recognized are the two types of liquidtight
flexible conduit.
Panel Meeting Action: Reject
Panel Statement: Pump rooms may have an accumulation of water or have a
sprinkler system installed; therefore protection against water intrusion into a
raceway is required. Flexible metal conduit is not listed for a wet environment.

13-106 Log #2345 NEC-P13 Final Action: Reject
(695.6(E))
____________________________________________________________
Submitter: Andre R. Cartal, Princeton Borough Building Dept.
Recommendation: Add ?electrical metallic tubing?
Substantiation: EMT would be permitted to supply the controller, the present
restriction on the use of EMT to supply the pump should be removed.
Panel Meeting Action: Reject
Panel Statement: Raceways from the controller to the motor are exposed in
the pump room. EMT does not have sufficient mechanical strength to prevent
damage to conductors.

Motorcontrol & Beavis63,

Thank you for your replies.

Charlie,

"It appears that the CMP is concerned with the integrity of the wiring method"

You confirmed what I had suspected. Fire Pump wiring integrity is crucial. Thank you again for your time and effort.
