Fire Pump Service

I am planning on connecting a service for a fire pump within the utility CT cabinet and feeding to a fire pump disconnect switch which will be located remotely. My question is if I need to provide overcurrent protection in this disconnect. I think it is required since it is a service however I do frown upon adding any overcurrent to a fire pump circuit. I am very familiar with Article 695 and the requirement to size any overcurrent to the LRC of the fire pump motor which is why I ask the question. If i need overcurrent protection it becomes a 600A disconnect switch if I do not need it is only a 100A disconnect switch. I struggle with this because it is a service and article 230 tells me overcurrent is required.

I don't believe that there is an exception to providing overcurrent protection for a service supplying a fire pump. See 230.90(A) Ex. No. 4 and 230.94 Ex No. 4.
