I have run up against an insurance underwriter who has interpreted NFPA 20 and 70 to require a totally seperate service to feed a fire pump controller. Not just a separate lateral from the utility company transformer, but a totally dedicated primary feeder, transformer, pole riser, cutouts, etc. His contention is that the fire company will roll up to the burning building, call the utility who will just happen to be right around the corner, and they will come and pull the cutouts to the building, thus rendering the fire pump useless. I have read, re-read, and re-re-read 695.3(A)(1) and also NFPA 20-9.3.2.2, but I could use some other ammo. Anyone have anything else I could use to convince this guy he's a little off base ? Or, am I the one missing it here ?
