I have a three section, 3000 amp 480v 3 phase 4 wire new service. Section one is the utility termination. Section 2 is the main disconnect (bottom) and CT's(top), section 3 is the breaker section. 695.3.1 says that you can not tap in the same vertical section as the service disconnect. The local utility requires the fire pump to be metered. Can I have some bussing manufactured, extend each phase from the load side of the ct's and before the main disconnect into the Utility termination section and make my taps there? My feed conduit from the fire pump is underground from the pump to the utility termination cabinet.

Your likely to have a 408(A)3 violation. Typically a seperate section is made for the pump tap.

Why not tap into the utility section of the gear? As long as you are on the line side and not in the same section as the service disconnecting means I do not see an issue with this. If need be, there could be a seperate meter for this.
