Fire Pump

Please help me understand a little more about the feeder requirements for a fire pump. Typically I have brought a second service from the POCO transformer for the fire pump. On this project we will have medium voltage switch gear feeding a few transformers that will be located around the building. My question is, can I still come out of an adjascent transformer or do I need to go all the way back to the switch gear for the fire pump feeder? My thinking is in the event of a fire if they need to killl power to a section of the building it would also kill my fire pump. Where as if it was it's own handle in the switch gear you wouldn't have this potential. On the other hand if I read 695.4 (2) correctly maybe none of this is an option. Utimatly this will all be engineered, but we are working on the budget pricing at this point and I would appreciate the help so I can be as accurate as possible. Thanks.

Thanks for the link. Some good info on there and I'll have to read it a little closer. To clarify, this is primary metered and the MV switch bays will be the main disconnects for the building. It sort of sounds like I can't even come out of the MV switches for the fire pump. That would certainly complicate things.

I think you have answered your question, but check with the POCO. I believe other options are available if a genset is dedicated for the fire pump.

Look at NEC section 695 which lists the requirements for fire pump feeders and OC protection.
