I have an existing fire pump 480 v 3 Phase 100 hp with jocky pump feed from a seperate service and transformer. The fire pump has a listed controler and the service is direct through a 200 amp meter base. My customer has up graded generators and wants to install the old one on the fire pump? Its more than enough in size 400 amps .I know that locked rotor does not apply to standby generators. But does the transfer switch have to be listed for use with fire pumps? The code is not clear.

Thank You

It will a large red and very expensive transfer switch. And your generator at "400" amps may not handle the inrush for a 100 hp motor, that depends on the generator and how its voltage regulation works.
