I installed a seperate service to a fire pump off the existing 480v service. Was I wrong to install ground rods to the fire pump controller?,or should I have bonded to the water pipes only. Also what about bonding the fire pump controller to the existing service, will this be taken care of by the water bond?or do I need to run a wire to the MDP?
Im thinking the ground rods were supplemental and that I didnt need them.

Thanks for any help.

If you're using a water pipe as a grounding electrode then a supplemental electrode is required as stated in NEC 250.53(D)(2). The NEC permits bonding to a grounding electrode conductor, the grounded service-entrance conductor, a nonflexible grounded service raceway, or any grounded service enclosure. But because a water pipe does not qualify as an EGC you would have to use something else. A ground wire would not be good because it is smaller than the GEC or an MBJ and therefore it would not be feasible to have the grounding electrode connected to it.
