I'm curios if anybody knows were in the code (2008) said that I have to use a rigid pipe for the service side (line side) of the Fire Pump DS inside of the electric room?
I thing it is a common practice but wants to know were the code require it!!!
I know about the 2 hrs fire rate system from the DS to the fire pump motor control and I know about the requirement for rigid pipe from the motor control to the pump!!!
But why most of the electricians run rigid from the end box to the first Service DS for the fire pump?

I don't think the code says that the fire pump service conductors on the line side of the DS need to be installed in rigid.

I think it says they need to be encased in concrete or brick on the line side of the DS within the building. See 695.6(A) and 230.6(1) & (2). (Or they need to be installed outside of the building.)

Yes but it is the same rule for All service conductors but i thing i can use Emt from the end box to the DS and will be no violaciones with it!!!
My boss said it have to be rigid!!! But he can't find the code reference!!!

I agree with the above statement.

Rigid Metallic Conduit protects the conductors from potential physical damage.

Rigid Metallic Conduit DOES NOT protect the building from 'fusing' service entrance conductors.

(see the definitions of: Service-Entrance Conductors, Overhead System- Underground System.)

230.70(A)(1) restricts the length of unprotected service entrance conductors within a building/structure.

695.3(A)(1) Electric Utility Service Connection.
The connection shall be located and arranged so as to minimize the possibility of damage by fire from within the premises and from exposing hazards.

695.6(A) Service Conductors

-- (none of the sections referenced in the parent paragraph of Section 695.6 modifies or supplements the requirements of Service Entrance Conductors within a building or structure)

The service entrance conductors supplied to the fire pump will be required to follow the standard procedures of services (Article 230) as per the jurisdiction one works in.
