quick question on the fire pump
we have a piece of switchgear that has five sections
first section is the incoming sec
second is the meter and main section
and we have a utility transformer, feeds coming underground to the building, running outside
up and then in through a wall to the switchgear, checking nec 695.3(1)
my question is, the five sections are considered the inclosure, so the splice for the firepump
has to be outside the five sections
the swithgear is on the mezzanine level
the firepump is on the first level
so where the underground (we have 6-4" conduits for 2400amp)comes up on the
outside wall, that would be where we get our power for the firepump
does the feed have to be metered for the utility
thanks as always

again my question
in my case where you have 5 section for your switchgear is the five
sections considered the cabinet or enclosure and the firepump
connection has to be outside the enclosure
thanks

I'd say if you made the tap in the first switchboard section, you would be ahead of and not within the same vertical switchboard section as the service disconnecting means. That should be OK per 695.3(A)(1).

As far as metering, that would up to your individual utility. We always meter our fire pump connections here.
