Fire rated Housings

Generally speaking most AHJ have been requiring Fire rated housings for recessed lights or drywall box them in Multifamily units in remodel situation as well as new

How are you folks treating a bath fan complete replacement , do you get one of those expensive housings to put the bath fan in?
 
We are probably too sheepish to admit we hadn't thought to go look up the code data for a building on their as-builts before swapping out an exhaust fan! :ashamed:

I see, however this is not about as-builts or code data.

If your state or local agency defines a replacement that must be done to current codes then why would you not think that you might need to address the bath fan in a fire rated manner?
