Fire Safety and Old Work

I know that an ungrounded GFCI receptacle is an acceptable (as long as it's marked "No Equipment Ground") and safe alternative to replacing older 2-wire cables. Strictly from a fire-safety standpoint, is there any difference between a grounded receptacle and an ungrounded GFCI receptacle?

GFCI's are installed for the purpose protecting persons from shock and not generally for fire prevention.

Yes, of course I realize GFCI is for personal protection. Let me ask the question a different way: Is an ungrounded branch circuit (with a GFCI receptacle) more of a fire hazard than a grounded circuit?
