fire sprinkler pipe and gec

im in the st louis area, some buildings bring in just the 6" sprinkler pipe and branch the domestic water supply off of that. wouldnt i be required to attach my gec before that first bolted joint. if so i cant seem to find 6" ground clamps that will accept a 3/0 size wire.

If you're only bonding the piping, and not using it as an electrode, I would think that you may clamp where you can. Make sure there are no insulative joints; bolted joints are okay.

it is going to be used as the grounding electrode. i'm curious, if eveyone is clamping to the 6", why are the clamps so hard to find. or is it ok to clamp to the 2" copper domestic supply if it is a threaded tap on the 6", and it is within the first 5 feet where it enters the building.
