Fireman switch

Good question. I have heard the term when referring to pool heaters. Maybe someone else will know what it is exactly.

Was it pertaining to an elevator?

Apparently it is some sort of device/equipment that is specifically installed and designed to allow fire officials to deenergize premise wiring before entering during an emergency...

I have recently been required to provide a "fireman's switch" on a few jobs lately in TN. As previously mentioned, it is a switch that allows the firemen to kill power to a building's main electrical service before entering. This can be accomplished by using a shunt-tripped main breaker at the main service with control wiring from the key switch at the front entrance. Sometimes this key may be locked in a "fireman's box," which is much like a locked glovebox at the main entrance that contains pertinent building information for the firemen.

I have seen that kind of switch installed for fireman by the elevator door on first floor. It is recessed in wall and protected with glass cover. I guess it was used for elevator recall long time ago. The fire alarm system recall didn't apply at that time. That is my guess.

The document is saying " That will be used to trip the main breaker "

It is a push button wired to a shunt trip main breaker. Used to de-energize ALL power in building.
