I'm writing up an estimate for a small kitchen/livingroom remodel. The homeowner is having a gas fireplace installed an purchased the optional blower. Seems simple, 110v wired directly to the blower junction box. Can't get any info off the unit on how much it draws though.

My question is this. There is an existing outlet that is close to where they are installing the fireplace. this outlet will be covered up when the walls for the fireplace are closed in. What do I do with the outlet? I'm thinking of removing it and somehow installing it in the new wall thats going up.

What do you guys think?

Since its an older house most likely will only have one circuit in the living room, my first thought was to put this on a dedicated circuit, you surely don't want to brown the lights as that blower kicks in. Second thought is the receptical has to remain accessiable or directly wire it to the blower junction box.
It'd be best to get your hands on the blower spec's, since it might be
90^C wire (Appliance/Wire), gain installation instructions, we'll all been reading about 110.3(B), and route based on the design application, and go
met the mason.

With spacing requirements in mind, you'll probably need to install one new receptacle on each side of the fireplace, and join them with a carefully-routed new piece of NM. You should be able to catch the blower at the same time.

Guys, thanks for the replies.

I should have been clearer.

This is not a brick fireplace. It is a prefabricated one.

The walls are 2x4 studs covered with sheetrock.

Talk to the HO and/or fireplace contractor and get the information on the installation instructions for the prefab fireplace. There are likely specific instructions within them that you will need.

Signed - wishing the previous HO's had installed this wiring when they did the same thing.

These blower motors are no larger than a good fart fan motor. That don't draw much current at all. There is a box on the side of the prefab that you bring your wire into and install the receptacle that comes with the unit. The motor will then plug in.
