We are using Firex 7000 combo smoke and co2 detectors and have had alot of them going off in the middle of the night when the heat comes on. I have cleaned them out and replaced the batteries. The HVAC installer does not think it is his equiment. I have talked to another electricain and he said his 7000 Firex detectors has gone off at night with no obvious smoke or CO2. Has any one else seen or heard of these problems? I would be very thankfull for any advice.

Are all the detectors more than 3' from cold air returns, hot air supplies, etc? Have you checked out the one near the furnace?

Sounds as though you've already got your suspicions. :)

Here is a tidbit about the 7000 series:
Firex Smoke/CO Alarm Problems

The story is a little dated - Oct 2004....but seems to address an issue in the 7000 series purchased prior to 11/03.

When were yours manufactured?

Re: firex 7000 false alarms

Nothing wakes ya up faster than the FA going into alarm. I've had it happen to me twice and then I'm up doing several searches throughout the hose, sniffing the whole time and checking on the kids. Then it's next to impossible to get back to sleep. Sorry, I can't help ya with the trouble alarm. I'm not up to date on them.

Goodluck

Contact Firex (800-304-6563). They know they have a problem with these and will replace them for you. I 've had the same problems at the last 3 jobs and they were either replaced by Firex or my supply house.

A couple of years ago we had a rash of service calls for sd`s going off for no reason.Send a SE crew to change out sd`s 2 days later again same changed brands.2 days same thing
We checked for voltage ,loose neutrals, poor connections ,nothing.Had home owner call poco to check their side.Never had to go back.
