Got to the job this morning, and it was raining inside... They have a roof, but wind blown rain against the sheathing pumped water through the walls, which followed the framing and steel to spread throughout the buildings 4 floors.

  • Water draining through cans. All floors...
  • Water found the stock (4 boxes of CB's) - in the basement level.
  • Rained all day in there even when it stopped outside.
  • 50X50' section of scaffolding came loose and I figured it was time to leave - the only ways in or out were through either that, or other scaffolding....
An interesting day...

I drove about 200 miles today around the bay area, stopping to get permits, reset gfci's, do an estimate.

Im glad it has passed through. I dont even remember the amount of accidents I saw today.

Don't think we've seen the worst of it here yet. Raining harder today than yesterday and we just had two big fires so we sould see some mud slides today.

Just to be sure, we are talking about rain here right?

You have to know that here in Southern California we haven't had any rain since June and then it was less that .5 inches. We then just had two 20,000+ acre brush fires which wiped all of the vegitation off of the hills so now you take the rain and exposed hill sides and you can have some major problems for people living below.

Oh and here when it rains, people become bigger idiots, when driving, than they were in the first place.

So what else is new. ;)

At least they aren't allowed to drive and yap on a cell phone. Unless your Mrs Governator. ;)

New reality show... Take a bunch of Californians to a snowy climate and watch them drive.

Oh nothing really. We have all four seasons here, wind, rain, summer and fire.

I just saw that. She's gonna get it.

We hear that all the time from our son in Denver. I told him that they didn't know how to drive in the snow and that really surprised me, he said those were all of the transplanted Califonians, the ones pulling them out of the ditches were the locals.:D

I love seeing corvettes in the ditch..

I love seeing corvettes in the ditch..

After a slight rain: my truck plods along, corvettes tend to hydroplane into the ditches.

We got about 4" in a few hours - with 40MPH winds. Knocked over stuff all over town. Flooding roads all over the place. Just to the east had 21" in the same amount of time and enough wind to wrap power lines around each other. Several years ago I woke up and replaced a dozen service risers - this stuff isn't 'just rain' - it's the full brunt of the pacific....

It is now against the law to take pictures and sell them of the Govenators wife, or any other celebrity on their cell phone while driving....

Back in the day... I grew up in Massachusetts and we used to take money on cars hitting the side of the bridge after some good snow... CA plates had odds not worth betting... And it's true - people here drive 10 to 15 MPH faster in just a few drops of rain. But that said, to be fair - CA does get its fair share of snow.

So, in the effort to divert this topic off of the weather (everyone knows how much I love weather threads)...

So, how much of this water damaged equipment is getting thrown away, and who is paying for it?

Bits and peices really... We're gonna 'fire up' the cans for a few days once they are dry, and see if there is any real damage... You can tell which ones they were because they look like they had tea running through them... (Doug fir, plywood and glue lam 'tea') They are all Iris cans and have a cover over the top deflecting most of the water, but the J-box could have gotten water in them. The breakers - just the boxes were wet. And some romex got wet inside.

The scaffold got the 'screen removed by some brave and stupid laborer who went out on it while it was leaning and detacthed from the building - but saved it as possibly his own peril...

Even though this is a big dollar house - no one seems to be mentioning the mold, or other rain damage to say the glue, and micro lams....
