A 12 x 12 foot room was built onto the rear of an existing dwelling. On the north wall and half way down the east wall bench seating was built in and is a permanent part of the finish of the roomand the seat part of the bench lifts up to be used as storage. The local inspector is citing 210.52(a)(1) and wants outlets installed into the lower part of the bench which would be between the floor and the bench itself so when anyone sat on the bench the outlets would be right behind their legs.My argument is that it should not be considered as wall space where the seat is permanent and the outlets would be more of a hazard with them than it would be without them and who would want to put a lamp or anything else on the bench and plug it in.
