Hello everyone. I won in my first bid for my little shop today, and wanted to see if some of ya'll could give me some feedback on my estimate. The job consists of putting 4 duplex receptacles under a computer desk, run MC from them to a box above the ceiling which has two spare circuits in it. I verified these circuits are spares, and also mount a network outlet, and run the CAT 5E cable from that to the network rack, which is in the next room. I charged $1550, and it was accepted. I've got a couple of software estimating programs, but they seemed kind of low as far as price. I'm happy with the money, but what would some of ya'll charge?

The price sounds OK. Did they sign a contract and when and how will you be paid?

There is only one thing more important than winning a bid and that's getting paid. Make sure you have this covered before doing any work. ;)

Sounds good to me. Keep them happy and see if there is anything else they may need or know of someone that may be in need of your services. Send them a thank you letter and a customer satisfaction survey.

It's in a school here in town, and this summer they are adding a ninth grade addition. I want to stay in their good graces so that I may be invited to bid on that. The "thank-you" letter idea is good, I'll do just that. Thanks!

You are jummping from adding 4 receps to doing an addition to a school all I can say is good luck.Schools are usually prevailing wage and the invitation to sub bd will come from a general contractor. You will need good help and that can be hard to find don't wait till you need someone to start looking.Going from resi to commercial is a whole new world.Jumping from small commercial to large can also take its toll.
