fixture distance off wall

What would be the proper distance off a wall to set general use surface mount fluorescent fixtures in a garage?There is nothing specific I am trying to illuminate, just general lighting. Fixtures are going to be spaced 6-7ft apart. Thanks.

The distance from the wall to the fixture should be half the distance the fixtures are apart.


So in your case with the fixtures 6' to 7' apart the distance to the wall should be 3' to 3'-6".
