Old commercial building wants to replace fixtures in T-grid ceiling. Replacing only the fixtures, the whips, boxes, ect. are to remain untouched. Some of the fixture whips have ground wire and some do not. Do the whips need to have ground wires added to them to bring them up to code? What code would I reference?

How long are the whips and what are they made of? FMC can be used under certain conditions up to 6' without a wire type EGC. Look at 250.118(5).

Any chance you are looking at master and slave fixtures?
