Fixture Hickey...

Not sure where to post this one so I try here.

Does anyone know how much weight a fixture "hickey" will hold? I have a chandelier to hang and I've been told it weighs about 120 lbs.

NEC wise it doesn't matter but out of curiosity what kind of box is it and how is it supported? At 120 pounds you'll need some type of support independent of the box unless the box is designed and marked for support of a fixture greater than 50 pounds. {314.27(A)(2)}
 
Is it high enough that you might want to put in a lift instead for later access?
A 120# fixture can be fun to hang. (Not likely to be able to support it by the wires while finishing the canopy!)

I'll be supporting the fixture independent of the box, still working on this. I have not seen the exact fixture so I'm exploring possible options for support, that is why I'm thinking of using a hickey.

Largest chandeliers Ive ever seen were in a hotel I used to work at... solid brass, two tier, about 40 lights per. They used chains attached to the i-beams above for support. Would have loved to have seen them installed.

120lbs is probably in the range of conventional boxes on brackets, assuming 16" framing. Ive done pullups (not many) on old work brackets for ceiling fans.

I'm more curious of the logistics of hanging such a device than how it is supported. Especially if it is all glass, not brass.

My first thought is to use an all-thread or stud that will attach to support in the attic, using the hickey to allow for wires to stay in the j-box.
 
Be careful of hickeys, some are pot metal some are malleable iron. Get the right one for the job.

Update:

Chandelier is up and has been for about 2 weeks now.

I was never able to get the exact weight so I:

Used 2 3/8" threaded rods from fan rated metal box to a piece of 2"x6" across 4 joists

At the box I used 2 fixture bridges on top of the box and a threaded bridge attached to the box with 10/32's
