I am installing can lighting and was curious if it is NEC compliant to make my own 6 foot fixture whips using the # 18 fixture wire.
I have made hundreds of them, but usually with #14 THHN.
That is a violation unless it is on a 15 amp circuit breaker.
Article 402 does not recognize THHN
Armored cable type AC is used in office wiring, but I don't see this type in table of article 402

Armored cable type AC is used in offices also from j.b. to fixture (as tap conductor) instead to put wires in conduit.
