I need to hang some pendant fixtures for a project in a 30' open ceiling down to a 8' A.F.F. I would hang them with 1/2" GRC, but I do not remember the max length I can hang a fixture off of GRC. I looked in art. 344, but did not see anything that talked about max length of the GRC. Anyone know the article that would answer my question? Thanks.

In general 300.11(B) prohibits using raceways as supports with some exceptions, if you are simultaneously using them as a raceway for wiring. I recommend familiarizing yourself with those exceptions, and making sure it applies to your fixture.

You can use an empty raceway as a structural support for a fixture, if built per applicable structural codes. Keep in mind that even though RMC is dimensionally equivalent to schedule 40 pipe, it is not the same variant as any schedule 40 steel you will find in the plumbing or fencing trades. RMC is weaker than most steel, so that it can be bent for field-made sweeps.

300.11(B) does not prohibit using a raceway to support a light fixture. I don't think there is anything in the code that says you can or that you can't use a raceway as a fixture support.

Water pipe standard length is 21 ft, but of course it is not listed as conduit. Can you support with aircraft cable and use MC cable tied to the cable?
