Re: Flag poll lighting

Contact any lighting vendor's rep in your area. They will be glad to do the calculation for you, and tell you what type and size of fixture and bulb you need.

Re: Flag poll lighting

Here is a web site with information on flag pole lighting: http://www.lsi-industries.com/index.php/PDFs/greenlee/datasheets/FlagGuide.pdf

I know the folks at Greenlee Lighting, they make a very good luminaire.

We do a lot of flag lighting. Its best done from a light mounted away from the pole and about 10-20 feet high. A MH light source is best, HPS does not have good color rendition of the flag.

My pet peeve is a civic group installs a flag pole. Now they want to fly a flag 24x7. The pole needs a light, ASAP, per the flag code. We install the light, but the flag code requires the flag to be lowered during inclement weather, which is never done.
Do a google for the US Flag Code, it will have the requirements for displaying the flag.

Re: Flag poll lighting

i have a flag pole in my front yard - built it about ten years ago -- it's 35 feet high -- it is made of aluminum marine pipe -diameter reduced to the top of the pole. i welded two aluminum 1/2" rigid couplings half way to the top. drilled a half inch hole through the pole to allow a 18-2 belden cable to pass. i used an outdoor mr-16 fixture with 50 watt flood lights. the pole is connected to a 120/12 volt power supply controlled by a photo cell. the lamp life is very good and have had many neighbors ask me to build them one. i normally fly a 3 x 5 flag and the colors really look good with the close proxcimidy of the fixtures......
