I love these flat panel lights. Very light & easy to install in tight spots. They work well with these emergency ballasts too. But I would sure like to see a self contained emergency fixture. These require wiring the ballast to the light and feeding ballast from circuit. Ballast has 2 wiring compartments, in and out. Both are very tight. The tiny terminal strips in them are easily disconnected getting wires to lay in correctly. Plus, have to cut in a switch box to hold the test button.
But if I were the manufacturer, I would probably do it the same way. They can produce just a few versions of lights & sell the ballast separately. Much simpler for them. And I think the same ballast fits all their lights. That much is good too.
Wiring compartments on lights are very tight & only one cable is practical to run to it. I think I posted before about installing a 4x4 box on some lights to allow 2-3 cables.
