I have site where process skids are in service for about 4 months a year, then relocated during off season. Client wants to feed power via flexible cord from nearby (20' or so) flexible cord.

This doesn't seem to meet any of the allowable uses in 400.10, unless it is hidden in 400.10(10) (where specifically permitted elsewhere in this code).

Application is 50A 120/240 supply, and not unlike the recent threads on portable steel containers used for offices. is there a code section that would permit (or prohibit) portable cord for this type of skid installation?

Also of note - a portion of this cabling passes through Class I div 2 area, although the connections are in non classified locations.

Actually it meets three of them. (3) and (6) and (8).

Thanks Bob.

I didn't consider this equipment skid to be an 'appliance'. So I don't know that 3 or 8 apply. However I suppose 6 applies, after rereading the definition of utilization equipment.

Go to article 100 and check the definition of Appliance and see if this particular equipment meets those requirements. I think you will find that you may become convinced it actually is an appliance.

I'm not convinced. But that's ok, I think (6) will work.
