Simple question, are these permitted by the NEC?

Welcome to the forum.

Hmm. Interesting question. One could say, because tracks are usually affixed to the structure, thus the cord is in lieu of permanent wiring.

On the other hand, there's the argument that the plug makes it not part of the structure wiring, thus the NEC has no jurisdiction at all.

What about swag-kit lighting, where a light hangs from a ceiling hook, with one or two more routing the chain and/or wire to the wall?

So, one could also feasibly use something like this to connect two section of lighting track across a large ceiling beam?

Wow, a track-light suicide cord!
ignoring that for a moment, I doubt that is rated to carry the same load the track is rated to carry.

In fact I seem to recall some those fixture adapters are not even listed, think it was ones that don't have an EGC incorporated into them though.
