Flexible cord used as permanent wiring method

In the "Picture of the day" post, some one mentioned and issue with "Flexible cord used as permanent wiring method"
IF proper SOOO cable is used as a "Whip" would that not be acceptable ?

I ask because, I am... and it passed...
I have a L6-30 on the end of a 10 ft Whip.
Specifically, this is in a computer rack in a computer room.

Why it was not put into an outlet, I could not say..
but I am having a second installed and there was Zero push back from three different contractors...
(NO I don't work on my own equipment)

are u saying the plug was taken off the whip & it was connected directly to the premises wiring system ?

An L630 is an acceptable means for so cord. However it is primarily used for equipment that may be moved around. Or some use it as a disconnect for equipment. But I don't think you would consider it permanent if it can be unplugged. What configuration do you have on the computer board end?

Though the main power cord to the rack seldom gets unplugged on such equipment, it is probably still seen by many as something allowed to use flexible cord because of frequent interchange, connection of moving parts, or is considered portable equipment.

..and because that's what was factory-installed for the PDU input.

On the flip side, I have seen supply-side drops from a trough using SOOW and cord-mount twist-lock connectors. Since they were only about a foot long, one wonders why they went to the trouble instead of just using plate-mounted receptacles.

I have a 6 rack room with a cable ladder going from wall to wall over the racks.
one side of the whip is terminated in a box on the cable ladder and "free floats" down to the ground and terminates in the L6-30
and YES, it is for a PDU hookup
