Spacing Receptacles shall be installed so tht at no point measured along the floor line in any wall space is more than 6 ft from a receptacle.

or perhaps i don't understand the question  going to make coffee now.............

Yes theres a misunderstanding. Im speaking of light fixtures. Is there a limit of how long the cord can be on a light fixture?? I was told 6ft, but i do not see that restriction. Remember this is NOT an appliance.

I have seen on alot of prints that whips on 2x4 lay ins are not to be longer than 6 ft., many light fixtures on cathedral ceilings will wind up with cords longer than 6 ft.

In the 2008 NEC check out 410.62(C)(1)(2) keeping in mind that section only applies to electric discharge luminaires.

Can a Moderator fix the title as to assure a proper future search on the forum ?

white book search 'length'

brother, while drinking a pot of coffee, i browsed the white book and the only restriction of 6' i came across was for LFMC with regards to grounding.
FWIW

thanks iwire, that's where i was looking in the handbook, must have missed that in the code update class.

i knew you were making a point, just couldn't see it. i have about 100 fixtures installed w/ cord and plug. similiar to ex. 410.5 in '05.

learnin' learnin' learnin' :)

don't know bout the OP, but i don't have any 400.8 issues (including the expection) but will have to deal with them if there are any changes to current installations at the place of employment, as i have examples of both, but installed under different code cycles. thanks again
