Looking for a good dependable floor box for exposed deck. I found a product advertised by red dot that looks good and the price is OK but I can't seem to find any reviews. It's RED Dot floor grommet pro.

What have you guys been useing for floor boxes in raised decks?

Any recommendations? Want something really functional and willing to pay more if it's a good product.

Can you clarify if this is indoors or outside?
Elevated concrete deck in a multi-story bldg or wood framed and planked deck on a single family?

I just watched two Youtube videos on the Red Dot Deck Grommet Pro and the Red Dot Deck Grommet.

The non-pro one seems like trash and I wouldn't trust that one. I can't see how that can be listed; it seems like a multitude of NEC violations. I can't see how a company like T&B would put their name on that.

The pro version seems pretty good and seems like it would be compliant. As is typical, they provide electrogalvanized screws. I'd spend the time and money to make those screws stainless so you can get to it five years from now. In the video they say install it on a GFCI protected circuit and then they show a GFCI receptacle in it. There were no reviews on it like you said. I'd trust it enough to try it out.

You are right and the non-pro does look like trash and I wouldn't think it NEC compliant.

The pro version looks a lot better but I can't seem to find a supplier. They advertised it enough so you would think it's out there some place.

Just wondering if anyone else had found a good product. I normally would not put floor boxes in a planked deck but on this job there is little choice because someone has already installed floor boxes that are definately not NEC compliant and I need to find a replacement.

They sell that crap at Home Depot and Amazon and all over the place. Makes you wonder.

Here I just found this:
The Red•Dot® Deck Grommet™ Pro Floor Box complies with National Electric Code® (NEC®) Section 406.9 (B) (1) and 590.4 (D) (2) for unattended in-use plugs in wet locations and “extra-duty” outlet box hoods, which are now required for any installation. It is also cULus compliant (compliant with Underwriters Laboratories in Canada and the United States) and compliant with NEMA 3R enclosure ratings for protection against falling rain, sleet, snow and external ice formation.
For more information about the upgraded Red•Dot® Deck Grommet™ Pro Floor Box from T&B, please visit www.tnb.com and look for Red•Dot ® on the “Brands” tab, or call (800) 238-5000.

They can tell you what suppliers carry it. Might take a day to get it.

Thanks for that link. I found the site and downloaded in installation instructions. It does appear that it would work and also that is the only product on the market that would.

I'll send information to the owner and hope they are satisfied, not much choice on the matter if they want floor boxes.

How can you hog that much out of a deck plank and still have integrity?

We are not worried about structural integrity we are worried about electrical safety and metting the 2014 NEC ( hard as hell to do ).:happyno:

Really I'm thinking that a cross brace at each end, they don't mention it but a 2 x 6 or 2 X 8 from joist to joist should do it. If nothin else just box it in .

The people that wanted me to look at this job first hired a kind of handy man to install floor boxes and they would not be anywhere close to compliant. I told these people I would need to remove all wiring and start over and they don't want to do that so I probably will not be doing the work. But they do need a permit to get the deck to pass inspection so they may come around to my of thinking and if so I'll find some way to may the decking safe.

I was hopeing that someone knew of a better product but I can't seem to find one.
