Floor heat thermostat

Seems that whenever I go back to a job after the tile contractor has installed the heat mat I always find where they have pulled the cold lead and the floor sensor into the same outlet box.

Is this commonplace? All floor heat instructions that I have read state that the two should be separated.I realize that the sensor connection at some point has to be in proximity to the other leads because it physically attaches to the stat.

One reason I ask is because it seems that I have been going back to jobs where the stats have failed in what I feel is a short period of time.(2 years or less).

Could there be any correlation between the two?

We install the heat because technically you must have a license to do it and around here they inspect it. So we install a deep metal switch box with a one gang adapter ring and the feed, load and sensor are install into that box. The sensor attaches to the t-stat as does the line and load so they have to be in the same JB

We also install 2 sensor in case one goes bad

Technically the sensor lead is supposed to be pulled just on the outside of the box. Fine for a cut in installation but not for new
