Greetings.

We have some floor boxes that are installed under an altar in a church in a raised concrete floor. The site has not had its final inspection yet.

Are there any other specifications on the installation other than 210.52.A.3 about floor receptacles, their installation and the components used?

I need to know every possible point of contention for an installation of this type.

I found that there is a requirement that the face of the receptacle should project a minimum of 0.4mm (0.015 in.) from metal face plates, but I don't have a way to measure this.

I will be going to the site to get more information after lunch (3 hours). However, I would like to get as much information as possible in the meantime so I know what to look for when I get there.

Thanks,
Alomega :D

First of all, 210.52(A)(3) is in no way a ?specification.? There are some places (and a church is not one of them) that have to have a minimum number of receptacles along the walls. Sometimes we can put a receptacle in the floor, instead of in the wall. If we wish to take credit for a floor receptacle, as a substitute for a wall receptacle, then 210.52(A)(3) tells us how close to the wall that floor receptacle must be. This has nothing to do with your situation.

I don?t know where you found the statement that a receptacle face must extend a minimum distance from the face plate. But that number is too small a number to be measured in the field. My inclination would be to rub my finger across the face plate. If I can feel a bump, when I get to the receptacle itself, I would say it met the requirement.

art. 406.4 (D) is what you are referring to, I don't know how to measure this but if the recept is slightly beyond the finish plate you are probably good to go.

Covers

Covers

One possible point of contention I thought of was covers. Is there a special face plate or cover requirement for floor receptacles?

Seems like there should be, but I cannot find one.

They are usually paired with the box you install.

But is there a requirement in the code requiring an approved cover similar to that for wet/damp location receptacle covers? Those have to be approved right? So do these?

If so how can I tell if they are, contact the manufacturer? Aren't the wet/damp devices listed as such on the device? Are floor devices?

Under a church altar is a wet location???

not to say that ... just saying that covers for wet locations are marked as such ... are floor plug plates/boxes also marked as such ... approved for floor... or can you use any type of coverings
