Has anyone ever installed floor mold in a residence? Under Carpet, above carpet? An elderly resident is asking the community to install an outlet in the middle of the room, and the powers that be are referring it to me for install. I see it s a tripping hazard and have recommended that it be put in the slab. Due to the price of slab install they are requesting that floor mold be installed instead. Any feed back would be appreciated. Thanks

I have used it years ago. You need to make sure back plate it screwed tight to the floor! If you mount it on carpet it will become loose and you will have a tuff time snapping the top cover on to the base. I have found that is best on a hard surface. Wiremold makes the floor boxes and wall fitting for this type of installation just check the wiremold catolog.

Type FCC could be used, but it's expensive, and there is minimum amounts the supply house will sell you. Is the carpet in squares? Or is the roll type? No trip hazard with it other than the terminations. Cheaper than cutting and patching concrete though.

Putting a potential trip hazard in an elderly persons home sounds like a disaster and a future lawsuit.....

Thanks guys, I think a signed waiver to avoid lawsuit will be in order as I think they are going to insist. I have looked at your links, but I still see it as a bad idea in this type of
application. We'll see.

The wiremold product when installed securely to the surface is not much of a trip hazard, however, as Mike pointed out in Post 4, it's a bear when carpet is involved. I would be tempted to talk to a crapet installer and see if a section could be cut to allow the Wiremold floor molding to be installed.
