Has any body stocked up on weather heads?

Is that really a concern for storm repairs? I can see the RMC or whatever you have to support it getting mangled, but I'd figure the head itself should remain in pretty good shape. By the way, please stay safe.

Often times the weatherheads break.

Nope. But then again, we're not in the projected path. :p

The last time we had a major event here (Sandy) I took a quick trip to a Depot in southern Connecticut just to see what they had, or rather, didn't have. They had a fresh pallet of Generac GP5500's for a decent price (but no other generators), and had no 10/3 romex, 10/4 cord, 30 amp ends, 30 amp breakers, and just about anything service related. They also didn't have a single chainsaw. Even the junk electric chainsaws were gone. :slaphead:

Went to the grocery store today to get a quart of milk. Plenty of milk, water fruit etc but hardly a bag of chips left on the shelves. That's southerners for you. They have their priorities right.....:D

ABB factory Alert

ABB factory Alert

I order parts and ATSs from the GE-Zenith (now ABB) ATS factory in Mebane, NC.
Does anyone know in advance if or how that will affect shipments?

It likely will not affect it much, if any.

It's mostly government offices that will be closed. They have called for schools in that area to be closed Friday.

However it looks like Florence may be turning south a bit. Mebane is about 20 to 30 miles West of Raleigh.

Now if they're in a flood zone. I could be wrong.
But Mebane has not been prone to floods in the past.

Up here in the northeast we require 5/8" pole hardware (bolt and eye) through the houses framing (nut and washer on the inside) for the service drop point of attachment. So it's going to take a big tree to take that drop down, might even pull the side of the house off depending on whether the neutral strand gives up first or not. So an item like a weather head is inconsequential since any damage is going to involve much more than that.

Of course we still have older services that still use a lag bolt (stick pin) insulator that pulls out when the wind blows. Then the service usually gets pulled off the side of the house and you usually wind up doing a new service. So there again, you're going to need more than a weather head.
