I'm taking the Florida County Masters exam in a few weeks. This County exam will reciprocate to most other Counties in Florida. I'm only taking the County exam for practice for the Florida State Masters EC exam.
Is the Florida State Masters EC exam harder than the County exam?
I appreciate any input you guys have on this topic.

Simple answer: YES.

The Master Electrician exam required for the "ER" license or jurisdiction license is exclusively an NEC refereced exam. It's nothing more than a glorified Journeyman Exam with the addition of 3-phase and transformer questions.

It certainly can't hurt taking the exam for the purposes of preparing for the state exam. It will be helpful on getting your timing and quickness searching through the NEC.

Be sure to download the candidate bulletin off the ECLB website and get ALL the references required for the state exam.

Hopefully you have already begun the process of getting signed-up (applying) for the state exam, which is rather timely and frustrating to say the least.

The application process in actually the hardest part of the entire process. By the time you get the actual EC license, the exam itself will have been the least of your problems...

Thanks for the info. bphgravity. Yes I have almost finished the 46 page application process. It took me about 6 months and was sent back to me three times. I'm now waiting for the board to give me the ok.
I have all the books, and plan on taking the Mike Holt's five day preparation course before the exam. I have already reserved my hotel room.
Someone on this site said Florida is Mike Holt country better come loaded for bear. Well I'm loaded!

go for it!

go for it!

I did the same as you about this time last year. I figured the Co. masters would be good exercise for the State exam. If you know your way around the code book, you'll do fine on the Co. test. The time limit is what stressed me out, but it's way do-able. Honestly though, I suggest that go the extra mile and just go for the State exam the first time.....save alot of money and grief......Good luck either way!

Thanks for the reply. I'm concerned with the business exam. I have the Florida Contractors Manual but no other study material. Any advice on what I should study?

Some advice: Go take the business test. You have nothing to lose, and if you fail it you'll have a good idea what to study the second time around. The business test is very accomadting, you can take it practically anytime anywhere and get 3 chances. All you need to know is how to reference your FCM. Don't over study for it, just go get it over with and get back to the important material.

hey icemam you better get moving on the state papework.i have been back and forth with these people at least 6 times.they now tell me the board denied me because i lacked 1 year of w2s.that is funny because the first letter they sent me it showed all my w2s.they then changed it in the same phone call that my job list was incomplete.i also submitted my license from ny.i also submitted more then what was required on my job list.these people dont seem to understand that they are messing with my livelehood.now it looks like i am going to miss the july exam and now have to wait till november.
i met a electrician today and i was telling him about this problem and he said he had a similiar problem.he told me he uses a electricial qualifer for his buss.in other words he has his buss set up in his name with his own insurance just using someone eleses license.does anybodt no if this is legit and if so what would the compensation be to the license holder

Hey 2gang. I know they have been doing the same thing to me. I think I have everything fixed now and hope to make the November exam. They don't know who they are dealing with. I will eventually take that exam, and I will pass it. Hope to see you there.

Iceman, I took the county's (Brevard) business exam and it was cake. After flipping through/studying the contractor's manual I too worried because I didn't care for the layout of the material, it was hard for me to get comfortable with it. Anyway the exam is laid out in the same order as the manual and it's open book so I had no problems passing it. Good luck
