I submitted my Florida application packet for the Unlimited Electrical in November. Florida's DBPR finally responded saying they needed more information. One item was regarding work experience which I can handle, but the other was regarding my credit report. I paid for and submitted a complete credit report from TransUnion, one of the "big three" credit reporting firms. Florida rejected it with the comment that it did not contain the verbage regarding records being searched at the nation, local and state levels. Where in the world does a guy get such a report? I would have thought that a credit report from TransUnion or Equifax would have been more than acceptable, but apparently not.

Any help out there from experienced Florida folks ?

Why on earth do you want to go to FL?

If you go to FL you will have to throw away all that you have learned in theory and code as far as some lead us to believe. :)

Heck, Texas and Louisiana have mild climates. :D

Well, you won't need to worry about getting licensed for that, just go. :)

Whew, that saves you alot of pain. ;)

Jim, is it different than what you post here?

If not, why should he have to "Come on down", to see what it is like, can't he just take your previous posts as gospel? :D

Roger,he should very much believe what both me and Allen post.Life is differant here and only way to really understand it is to work here.Sometimes what the rest of you post makes me think about moving up north. But then we hear things like no work or too cold to work. The grass just might not be greener up there. Our company has many many guys that left the north.59 degrees right now and no snow

The Florida Administrative Code Rule 61G6-5.003(4) states, "A credit report on the qualifying agent from any recognized credit bureau which includes but is not limited to liens, judgments, suits and bankruptcy obtained from county, state, and federal records. The credit report must be dated within twelve (12) months of the date of filing the application. Reports which are limited to only information that has been obtained from the qualifying agent or past and present employer are not acceptable."

Though it does not say it, I do believe the state prefers the credit report to be sent directly to them from the credit agency and not from the applicant. Also, there is a "prefered" credit reorting agency that is available that provides reports specifically for license applicants. I will provide you their information tomarrow.

Jim, like it or not, you and Allen are both immigrants, you may be acclimatized, but you are immigrants never the less, and I would bet your inspectors are as well.

Now you said,
Roger,he should very much believe what both me and Allen post.
so why should he have to come down to see what it is like, haven't you already covered it?

Remember, I worked in FL before you or Allen ever stepped on your first blade of Saint Augustine, so don't blow smoke.

And how come did you leave PARADISE.And while i might be from imigrants grandparents there is one major differance. They learned to speak english.Should i move to mexico i would learn spanish. The posts are hardly a full picture of what life is like here.
As to the original post. They made the credit reporter send the copy directly to them when i wanted my contractors license.Guess they figure less chance of anyone changing anything. They suggested a few acceptable places to get it from.Easier to just play by there rules.

Re: Florida frustrations

Jim, you have a low expectation of Paradise.

A little snow, season changes, clean water, is a few reasons why I left.

But anyways, Merry Christmas!

;)

Thank you to Bryan Holland for providing a little insight into the issue. I'll look forward to further information.

Out of the 12 or so replies, his was the only one with any relavance to my original question. Is this typically how the forums are conducted ? What, if any, is the moderator's function ?

Re: Florida frustrations

Not to belabor this, and I know that the Board has the final word, but the requirements listed in the application packet and the statute (61G6-5.003) seem to conflict. The application states that the credit report must contain the statement that records were searched at the county, state, and federal level. The statute states that the credit report must be based on a search from those records and not solely on employer records. There is nothing in the statute indicating that this statement must appear on the credit report.

Perhaps I'm beating my head against a brick wall or picking at nits here, but it's just my observation.

Anyway, thanks for the link to the statute. I'll keep pressing forward and maybe I can work this out.

Re: Florida frustrations

Hi all.
I just moved to Venice FL and I am really confused on how I even begin to go about trying to get an application to take a journeymans test?

Do you start at the county level? Where do I find out how to obtain information. Im originally from SC, and I guess we are just slower, but it seemed so much easier back home....
