From Google, I found this Forum, which has in general been a treasure trove of useful information. Recently I've found myself in a licensing Catch 22 that I am not sure if there is a way out of, and I'd be very interested in hearing your opinions or experiences.

I have been working with Telecommunications Cabling and IT in general for over 10 years now. I currently own a four year old business with 8 employees that focuses primarily on IT Services Management, but we also do voice and data when requested of us. We'd love to do a lot more of this, as our IT Security Credentials, and my pending BICSI credentials will open a lot of doors to us. However, I am not the kind of person that likes to do anything other than by the books, and I have for few months now been trying to figure out a way to prove my experience in order to qualify for a Florida Limited Energy License.

Here's my conundrum:

Up until recently, a Limited Energy License was completely unheard of in my part of Florida, for the most part it still is. When I was first cross-trained in V/D I actually apprenticed under a colleague of mine who had substantial experience in Voice/Data and was at the time doing a lot of work for department stores, and other large clients. However, he did not possess a Limited Energy License, nor did the person he apprenticed under, nor was it ever requested of him.

I am now very eager to get a Florida Limited Energy License in order to comply fully with Florida law and prove our commitment to standards and quality. The problem is... proving experience.

I am able to provide a list of 5 jobs per year over the past three years that I personally oversaw and can attest to are of quality. And I know several Electrical Contractors and Building Contractors that are willing to vouch for my experience.

Is there anyway I can make this work? Thank you for your comments, this has proven immensely frustrating.
