Any one know of counties in Florida that will allow me to keep a inactive masters license. I want to take test but dont plan to get into business right away. Im im Palm Beach county and they make you supply all documents and insurance to take the test. I was thinking of taking the test in another county and then when im ready to open shop reciprocate to Palm Beach. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

The entire state of FL will allow your EC (Unlimited) license to be inactive. It doesn't matter which county you are in. You'll need to pass the "State Certification" exam first, then once you are licensed you can choose to make it inactive if you want. But, if you keep it inactive too long you'll have to start all over!
Dept. Business & Pro. Reg. in Tallahasse is who you want to talk to.
Considering all of the yearly expenses it takes to keep an Active license/business in FL, it's not that much cheaper to keep it inactive, I don't think it's worth it. Just because you're licensed doesn't mean you actually have to do any work!

If you are talking about becoming a county "Registered" Electrician, you probably don't want to waste your time. They can only work in the county they are registered in, and many counties don't even offer Reg. Licenses any more. The State Cert. Lic. is the way to go if you are serious.

Good Luck,
Dave

I concur with Dave - get the state license! I do however believe that if you have a county level (registered) license there are reciprocity standards enacted so you can work in other counties. I know there are some that this is not the case but the majority should.

There is no requirement to activate a lincense once the exam is passed. I took the Exam when I was ready and didn't activate it over a Broward County and other jurisdictions have special rules in place that may prevent even sitting for an exam until you have met all the requirements for licensure. You simply need to do some research into what exactly you intend to do.

If you follow the advice to take the test in Collier County, just remember that when you want to activate it, you will have to go through the whole paperwork circus in every county that you want to work in.
The financial paperwork will drive you nuts.
Better to make the commitment to take the state test and get it all over with.
