I've got a friend who is moving to Florida. His wife got a job offer they couldn't refuse, so there up ang moving in a few weeks.

I was wondering what info anyone in the state could give me, such as what NEC do they use, what wage to expect, what does he need to do to get liscensed (he doesn't have a WI journeyman card, he was getting ready to take the State test), in general how are the different areas in Florida to work. I think he'll be near the Daytona area but I'll have to ask him again.

Thank-you for any help

Binney

Edit: Only one along the lines of what I expected?

Re: Florida

Go to myflorida.com and navigate through the license area. There are resi cards (giveaways) block cards (com.,ind, resi) then there is a masters test(needed to open a business). The masters is mostly #`s load calcs etc.motors lada da da da.www.myflorida.com is the best place to start.Wages working for others is well low compared to other states but here there are no city or state taxes taken out.A carded journeyman can expect $22.00 as top dollar,But there is no snow :D Also plenty of work for a 1 man business.

Re: Florida

I believe George is hinting at the number of "illegal" laborors that are taking over many of the less desirable jobs.
I have never seen any doing electrical work though!
Seriously, I've been here 6 years and it has Never affected me once. It must depend on your location, because I know others here have mentioned problems...probably a city-thing I would guess. (Who wants to live near a city anyway) :D I doubt anywhere North of Daytona will be a problem with illegals or finding work.
Anyway, the licensing is a pain, but is well worth it as apposed to working for lower wages. to get started contact the Dept. of Business & Pro. Regulation in Tallahassee for the application.

The masters is mostly #`s load calcs etc.motors
Huh? What year was that?! :D

My 7.5 hour exam only had about 3 #'s problems!
They were the 3 I knew I had right when I walked out of there!

Tell him to pack sun-screen! :D
