I am doing a new house with flourescant recessed. Honestly I haven't had a big call for these so I was wondering in the 6 inch style is the most common to install, I like Juno. They range from 32-26-18 watts. Seems only the 32 is dimmable and I can imagine how much that must cost or the dimmers. Are these good cans to sell, what do you guys use?

I use a variety of Compact Fluorescent downlights for commercial projects, not too much call for them on the residential side.

I wouldn't waste the money on dimming them in a residential application. You can expect to add $85 to $100 per downlight to add a dimming ballast, should be able to dim any wattage you listed.

I have used Pathway, Lightolier, Kirlin, Halo, Juno, Lithonia and others. None of them stand out as remarkably better than the others. I have used plenty of dimmable in the commercial side.

If they are insistant on dimming in residential, make sure that you coordinate the lamp and ballasts. Lutron makes a good ballast that works with the Major 3 lamp manufacturers (Sylvania, GE, Phillips). Also, I would suggest staying away from the non name brand lamps when dimming. Lastly, I wouldn't expect to be able to just walk up to the local service desk and walk out with a couple of dozen of these.

Good luck!

also make sure to show them the limitations of fluorescent dimming, or they could be in for an unpleasant surprise. buy the dimmable model and a dimmer, and hook it up so they can see that it does not dim like a regular incandescent/halogen/xenon/led.

Might be worth it to make up a portable demo unit.
