I have a situation where I need to install a closet light (a 2' T-12 strip) and the only place it will fit is in the top corner of the closet between the wall and ceiling. Thereby the lamp will be very close to the ceiling (with 1").

I can't find anything in the code that addresses it, but does anyone know of any thing that restricts flourescent lamps from being this close to a sheetrock wall?

The lamp is only 20 watts, so I don't see the issue, but I just want to make sure.

i know of no codes that address that other than the listing of the fixture; maintain 6" clearance from the bulb to the storage space is all i can tell you.

According to Chris, there's no clearances required:

(Sorry, Chris, I couldn't resist this one! )

peter you are correct..yet you have ask about a clearance from the ceiling but given us no other clearances..or even how far above the door..So would it not be better to be safe and use a cover guard bulb..I would look at the manufacture recommendation for the clearances..
