FM Approved Motor Repairs

Are there any shops that are FM approved for explosionproof motor repairs? Or, can anybody work on an FM approved XP motor?

Hmmm... I am not aware that FM has any approval standard for electric motors in classified location. Underwriters Laboratories is the only safety agency recognized by the National Electrical Code for the approval of electric motors under hazardous locations. ATEX certification of Flameproof motors is applicable to many non-ANSI installation areas.


UL requires that motors labeled by them for Class I and II be repaired by a shop that is certified by UL for the purpose.

FM 3615 covers this. Several of the submersible sewage pump mfg's use this standard with the FM approval.
