Light Fixture tails - 6'?
Motors - 3'?

The only maximum length in the NEC is for 3/8" FMC. As Tom suggested take a look at Article 348.

Good point. I was referring to the fixture tails and motors in the OP. There are other restrictions for things like hoistways.

Some places where MC isn't allowed by spec this can be usefull.

If you didn't have fixture wires in the FMC and used branch circuit conductors the 1/2" or larger can be longer than 6'.

Been down that road with plant maint guys. The ones always want to pound rods instead of run the wire.
